● The Hubert Bals Fund’s Script and Project Development grants are worth up to €10,000. Deadline: 1 August. More info.
● The 4th edition of the Addis Video Art Festival is looking for submissions. This year’s theme is Apart Together. Deadline: 1 August. More info.
● The African Arts Trust offers grants worth up to $20,000 to support grassroots organisations supporting visual artists. They must be based in East or Southern Africa. More info.
● The Luschei Prize for African Poetry is accepting submissions from African writers. The award is worth $1,000. Your work must be published between 1 May and 31 October 2021. You can send an uncorrected manuscript that’s currently being produced into a book. More info.
● The Centre for Applied Human Rights’ Arctivists Fund supports activists and artists worldwide responding to the outbreak of Covid-19 and its implications for human rights defenders, activism and shrinking civic and political space. Grants are worth between £1,000 and £2,000. Outputs can include writing a diary or blog, recording a weekly podcast etc. Applications are accepted throughout the year. More info.
● Mophradat Grants for Artists support creative and storytelling projects by artists from Algeria, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Somalia, Sudan and Tunisia. More info.
Before you apply... Remember these five tips from our Masterclass in Grant Writing for Creatives:
1. Never submit your application on the closing date.
2. Submit all the requested documents and information in the way that the application specifies.
3. Be concise without withholding important information.
4. Think of your proposal as being the same as asking a crush out on a date, and aim to impress the grant reviewers.
5. Collaborate with mission-aligned organisations. They often have the experience that grantmakers place a high value on.
